A preventive resin restoration
A preventive resin restoration (PRR) combines a sealant and a dental resin filling to treat small cavities while also sealing susceptible pits and fissures. The content of a PRR includes a composite resin material, used to fill the decayed area, and a protective pit and fissure sealant applied over the rest of the tooth’s chewing surface. It is a conservative treatment that involves minimal tooth preparation and is ideal for shallow lesions that are not extensive. First the smaller fissure decayed portion of posterior young tooth are removed with high speed mini burs and then bonded and sealed under isolation to prevent dental caries further . After restoring the tooth becomes smooth and there by avoiding food being stuck on the deep fissures. The life of it is more than 5years if the hygiene check ups are regular .

Dental Flouride – prevents cavities . It’s a proven fact . There are different types ..Stannous , APF ..so on . The doctor decides which is suitable for the kid or the adolescent. It can be professionally applied on tooth with a foam tray in Dental clinic every 6 months or 3 months too if the tooth is more probe for decay .
Composite Restorations are most Biomometic said now a days . Saves tooth lot as it’s bonded . It’s highly esthetic and can be polished to gloss . It has different shades which we choose before starting a procedure . It can be used to front and back tooth Restorations for broken, carious , worn out , cavities and more . They are Versatile coming in flowable and packable . It sets in 1 visit as the Dentist shows the light. It’s the most used Dental Restorative material now replacing Silver fillings. But,on time and years it can discolor or break . So , for larger Restorations we prefer the indirect Restorative material like Dental Ceramics and Zircoina.
Indirect Restorations: Inlays, onlays, and overlays are types of custom-made indirect dental restorations used to repair teeth with damage too extensive for a traditional filling but not severe enough to require a full crown. They are fabricated in a dental laboratory and then permanently bonded to the tooth. We decide according to the Clinical situation which one suits for the particular case after getting consent and discussion with the patient .
Veneers are thin shells for the front of teeth, while crowns are caps that cover the entire tooth.Veneerlays are partial coverages too.
The choice of material—metal, PFM (porcelain-fused-to-metal), Zirconia, or E-max—depends on aesthetics, strength, and cost. E-max offers high aesthetics and is ideal for front teeth, while Zirconia provides superior strength for molars and bridges. PFM is a budget-friendly option with moderate strength, and all-metal crowns are the strongest but least aesthetic.

Currently Zirconia is trendy as it’s a Single piece CAD-CAM ( Computer Assisted Design and Milled ) from a single Block of Zirconia . As it has more Versatile in all situations and most Durable most patients choose this option after a RCT procedure or a bridge or a full mouth rehab of crowns. It’s done in a short duration too . It can be so thin , so the tooth reduction is more Conservative than for other materials .
The measurements for Indirect Restorations are mostly now digital and if necessary is by Rubber measurements which the treating Dr decides as per the need and situation for that particular case .
Pit & Fissure Sealants -( PFS ) are mainly done for kids Permanent molar tooth from 6yrs . This is done to prevent any dental decay. This is a thin flowable light cure resin which blocks the deep fissures in the back tooth . Mostly this is milk white in color . So the treating Dentist as well parents can monitor whether the sealant is there or not . In this the prestine tooth is maintained long without any drilling till the kid grows to an adult and learns proper oral hygiene maintenance. PFS can be done from 6yrs to 18 yrs to prevent decay in any tooth that’s erupted inside mouth .
Glass Ionomer (filling) Restoration – commonly called as GIC by a Dentist are used as Semi permanent Restoration. It prevents Dental caries as it releases fluoride. It has got a standard color. It’s mainly used for Cervical Restorations where no more forces are there as well for elderly Geriatric patients who cannot spend a long time on a Dental Chair for a perfect Restoration. It needs a special handling most times .
